It’s amazing to me that fsu fans truly, honestly believe that the sanctions handed down to them from the NCAA on the academic fraud investigation were far too severe.
WHAT!?
noles, to put it frankly, you got a slap on the wrist. What’s the standard punishment for playing ineligible players? Vacating wins. That’s standard, that’s in the books. Technically, it’s not even a punishment at all, it’s standard procedure. So let’s review the other sanctions.
Four years of probation in which the school will get hit very hard if any other violations occur. Should be easy, right? Just keep your noses clean for a little while. I know that’s asking a lot of you, but just try mmkay?
Six lost scholarships over a 3 year period in football, and even less in the other affected sports. That will NOT even be felt, and is FAR too lenient and ya’ll know it. In fact, it’s been said that T.K. Wetherall even “negotiated” wins vs scholarship reductions. So what’s the problem? You got exactly what you wanted, or at least what your sorry excuse for a SCHOOL PRESIDENT wanted. In fact, it can even be said that he purposely threw Bobby Bowden under the bus to save any future problems, and now that it’s in the open, he’s putting up a front to make it seem like he has his back.
You don’t see them raising a stink about vacating wins and two possible National Championships in track and field do you? Are those titles and athletes not as deserving to be protected as Saint Bobby? Is all that matters Bobby’s win total in the race for Most All Time Wins against Joe Paterno now bigger than the program? Bigger than academic integrity?
And here’s another thing. Everyone who has a voice at fsu has not once denounced this scandal as preposterous. Not once has Bobby Bowden, TK Wetherall or even Governor Crist publicly admitted how ashamed they are that this happened at one of Florida’s state universities, a public institution of higher learning. It gives the whole state a black eye. 61 athletes that are known of, over a span of 10 different sports and not one ounce of regret is shown that this even took place?
It’s been said over and over that the coaches and administration knew nothing about what was going on, and that it was just a couple rogue tutors and administrative support staff and that the school and athletic teams should not be punished for something they didn’t even know was going on. Well, if it’s that shocking, how come there has been no outcry from these people about how embarrassed they are? All that is being discussed is in regards to precious wins being taken from Good Ole Bobby and how that will affect his Death Race with Joe Paterno.
Poetic justice would be for the NCAA to go back and slap them silly in the appeals hearing for trying to make them look like fools to the public. THAT would be a great ending.
